Chamber Concert at Józef Mehoffer House
Sunday, April 23, 2017, 4:00 PM
On 23 April, the arty interiors of the Józef Mehoffer House become a setting for a chamber concert by Krzysztof Klima (clarinet), Bogusława Hubisz-Sielska (viola) and Mariusz Sielski (piano). Music by Bruch, Mozart and Schumann resounds among objects from the original collection of the painter and stained-glass maker.
The Józef Mehoffer House
ul. Krupnicza 26
A place to feel the atmosphere of a pre-war musical and literary salon created by one of the most eminent representatives of Polish art.
The charming building on ulica Krupnicza was purchased in the 1930s by an eminent artist, recognised as master of Art Nouveau design, Józef Mehoffer (1860–1946), a master of genre scenes, portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and also murals and stained glass window designs. In his home, which he dubbed “the little palace under the cones” owing to the repeated decorative motif of tree cones, he set up an open salon of music and literature, and designed a beautiful garden. This is where the artist, deprived of access to his studio at the Academy of Fine Arts, worked during the Second World War. The current interior recreates the former decor and atmosphere. Gathered on the first floor is authentic furniture from the artist’s previous homes. It is a great place to admire the abundant works of the former host: stained glass windows, paintings, designs, and drawings. The reconstructed garden blossoms beautifully every spring. A curio: five decades before the Mehoffers moved in to the house at Krupnicza street, another famous artist of Young Poland, Stanisław Wyspiański, was born here.
Tickets: normal PLN 18, concessions PLN 14, family PLN 36, admission free on Tuesday
