Harps and flutes are usually hidden near the back of orchestral lineups, and they are rarely heard as solo instruments. But enough is enough! Stars of the concert forming a part of the cycle Viennese Composers with Sinfonietta are artists from the Vienna Philharmonic: the young, acclaimed harp virtuoso Anneleen Lenaerts and Dieter Flury, the orchestra’s lead flutist for almost four decades. The guests join forces for the performance of Concerto for flute and piano by Stefan Bolesław Poradowski, Polish composer who passed away in 1967, while Anneleen Lenaerts also presents Debussy’s Danse sacrée et danse profane (don’t miss her inspired recording from the 2012 Klarafestival on YouTube!). We will also hear Feliks Nowowiejski’s The Farewell to Ellenai, with Wojciech Pszoniak reciting excerpts from Słowacki’s epic poem and the Sinfonietta Cracovia orchestra, with Jurek Dybał stepping up to the conductor’s pulpit. The concert opens this year’s Theatrum Musicum. (Barbara Skowrońska)

Besides their weekly symphony concerts, the Kraków Philharmonic also organises master recitals and educational concerts for children and young people.

The Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic Hall in Kraków was the first philharmonic to open in Poland after the Second World War. Besides the weekly symphony concerts, it organises master recitals and educational concerts for children and young people, while the summer meetings with music assume the form of chamber concerts of slightly lighter character. A hallmark of the Kraków Philharmonic repertoire is its programme of oratorios, which the Philharmonic can present thanks to its extensive and varied lineup: the orchestra, mixed choir, and boys choir. The Kraków Philharmonic has become recognised for its promotion of the works of Karol Szymanowski in Poland and abroad.

The Philharmonic Hall frequently hosts concerts by special guests, for example, at major festivals.
