The master for the master. The artist for the artist. Konieczny for Wyspiański. An outstanding composer fascinated by a total artist, transforms his creative energy into music which will fill ICE Kraków on 23 October. This is a forecast of the  80th birthday of Zygmunt Konieczny, a summary of his lifetime achievements so far.

On that occasion the composer prepared a special piano concerto to show the quality of the piano accompanied by symphonic orchestra to the audience living in a word full of noise, bustle and expression. The work consists of 4 parts, each in a slightly different musical style, offering some diversity of contemporary music. The audience will certainly be captivated by the easiness of rendering emotions by subtle tones of the piano, combined with the lively temperament of symphonic orchestra. The work will be presented by two soloists: Piotr Latoszyński (piano) and Leszek ”Hefi” Wiśniowski (bass flute).

In the second part of the concert we will hear compositions based on Stanisław Wyspiański’s oeuvre  in which the composer have revolutionised theatrical music: the suites from The November Night and Curse staged by Andrzej Wajda, excerpts from Liberation staged by Konrad Swinarski, Acropolis  and Legend. as well as the composition  I am playing my heart  based on Wedding  and excerpts from Wyspiański’s lyric poetry. Solo parts are entrusted to outstanding vocalists: Joanna Słowińska (in triple role: Pallas Athena, the Harpist and the Bride), Przemysław Branny (Wysocki), Marek Bałata (Hermit), Marta Bizoń (Demeter), Katarzyna Jamróz (Cora), Lidia Bogacz, Beata Wojciechowska, Jacek Wojciechowski, Tadeusz Zięba. The soloists will be accompanied by the Polish Radio Choir and  Sinfonietta Cracovia under the baton of Rafał Jacek Delekta

In his interview for ”Rzeczypospolita” Zygmunt Konieczny says: ”In Wyspiański’s texts one can feel music, rhythmical pulse and extraordinary tension. There are a lot of symbols in them, also musical symbols. I am fascinated by the artist’s creative frenzy; I can always see extraordinary energy in his texts, still emanating despite the years that have passed. (…) Wyspiański’s art is so deep and versatile that I think it still is  and will be topical and important for all generations of the Poles.”

The concert is organised by the City of Krakow, the Krakow Festival Office and ICE Kraków. Tickets are on sale at InfoKraków points and via eventim.pl.

The concert is one of many events under the cultural project “Krakow – the City of Wyspiański”, on the w 110th anniversary of Stanisław Wyspiański’s death. In addition to the concert, there will be the Wyspiański Poetry Night in October and the ”Wyspiański Liberates” Festival, entirely devoted to the artist’s oeuvre.
