During the previous eight festivals, Kraków was visited by 41 artists from 17 countries performing works by 76 composers. But there is just one true protagonist: the piano. The 9th International Royal Cracow Piano Festival is the perfect opportunity to hear virtuosos of the instrument performing masterpieces of piano repertoires alongside less well known works.

The former – who doesn’t know Chopin, Liszt or Schumann? – are presented at recitals of Antonio di Cristofano and Lorenzo di Bella, while Francesca Carola and Michel Bourdoncle  present their interpretations of Beethoven’s sonatas.

The Spanish pianist Antonio Soria reaches for rarer works: we will hear compositions from his homeland by Enrique Granados, Federico Mompou, Ricardo Viñes, Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Turina. The Czech musician Martin Kasík performs works by his compatriots Janáček and Martinů, while Robert Andres from Croatia introduces us to the repertoire of Dora Pejačević. (Barbara Skowrońska)
