The Kraków Philharmonic proudly presents a special concert with Polish premiere of 72 Angels. In splendore lucis for choir and saxophone quartet. The work was penned by Lera Auerbach, a Soviet-Russian-born American classical composer and pianist. “Gramophone” defines her music as “inspired by dreams and haunted by other composers” due to frequent use of musical quotations, allusions and inspirations. “Auerbach’s use of quotation – the magazine continues – has inevitably drawn comparisons to polystylism and postmodernism, while the strong emotional and expressive vein that courses through much of her music suggests a neo-romantic approach. In truth, her music is neither. Nothing appears quite what it seems in Auerbach’s world, and her aim is often to find beauty ‘in the most unexpected places’”.

72 Angels is a commissioned work by Nederlands Kamerkoor, Radiokören Stockholm, Cracow Singers, Chorverband Steiermark – Vocalforum Graz, Collegium musicale Tallinn, CHOREOS Osnabrück and Zürcher Sing-Akademie und Collegium Vocale zu Franziskanern Luzern, as well as the famous Raschèr Saxophone Quartet. Its world premiere took place in November 2016 in Amsterdam, performed by the Nederlands Kamerkoor under the direction of Peter Dijkstras and the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet. The quartet will also perform the work in Kraków, together with the Cracow Singers. The artisctic director of the project is Karol Kusz.

Besides their weekly symphony concerts, the Kraków Philharmonic also organises master recitals and educational concerts for children and young people.

The Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic Hall in Kraków was the first philharmonic to open in Poland after the Second World War. Besides the weekly symphony concerts, it organises master recitals and educational concerts for children and young people, while the summer meetings with music assume the form of chamber concerts of slightly lighter character. A hallmark of the Kraków Philharmonic repertoire is its programme of oratorios, which the Philharmonic can present thanks to its extensive and varied lineup: the orchestra, mixed choir, and boys choir. The Kraków Philharmonic has become recognised for its promotion of the works of Karol Szymanowski in Poland and abroad.

The Philharmonic Hall frequently hosts concerts by special guests, for example, at major festivals.
