That Crazy Night

No plans for New Year’s Eve yet? If you’re in Kraków, there’s no chance of being bored!
Repertoires for all ages, universal dance music, atmospheric locations – Cracovians welcome the new year in a champagne mood! This time, New Year’s Eve in Kraków is held on four stages at four separate locations. Each party kicks off at 9pm.

Main Market Square
Women rule supreme at Kraków’s most beautiful square. Events on the stage set up opposite the Town Hall tower kick off with Kasia Moś. The singer represented Poland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, and she stars in the TV show Your Face Sounds Familiar. She is followed by Bovska whose song Kaktus is the theme for the popular TV drama Druga Szansa starring Małgorzata Kożuchowska – the video has been viewed online almost eight million times! The star of the evening is Natalia Nykiel – winner of the second edition of The Voice of Poland who skilfully blends electronica and alternative with pop. Her latest album Discordia is likely to set out the trends for the coming months – find out for yourselves! Just after midnight, the stage is taken over by the Cracovian DJ Olivia – her sets feature raw techno augmented with classic synths, reflecting her love of 1980s music.

Tauron Arena Kraków
The craziest night of the year visits Tauron Arena Kraków for the first time. It’s an unmissable event for all fans of hip-hop! The evening with Polish performers kicks off with the Cracovian rapper Szpak with the Chory Band, followed by the acclaimed Rasmentalism ensemble. Their latest album, 1985, is a highly personal and mature work. The Szczecin-based duo Łona & Webber are also known for their punchy lyrics and beats. The masters of witty repartee, supported by The Pimps, will entertain us with tracks from their critically-acclaimed latest album Nawiasem mówiąc. The evening is closed by Ten Typ Mes, admired by fans for his razor-sharp descriptions of the everyday. The Warsaw-based rapper and producer is a real stage animal, so we’re in for a wild night. Entry is free with passes distributed by evenea.pl.

Podgórski Market Square
The audience gathered in the centre of the Stare Podgórze district has a real treat in store: the evening is hosted by Wojciech Pijanowski. Just before midnight, the journalist and presenter known from many popular TV shows presents a mix of some of the greatest music hits for all ages. Music brings together generations, as shown earlier in the evening by the rapper L.U.C. joined by the diva of Polish stages Krystyna Prońko. We’ll be inspired to dance by the Boba Jazz Band – one of Poland’s finest ensembles performing traditional swing jazz.

Róż Avenue
The centre of Nowa Huta will also be filled with swing and dance by the energetic Companions. Before and after the concert, Waldemar Domański, director of the Library of Polish Song, and Michał Wasilewski, known as DJ Vasil, engage in a DJ battle. Who will be crowned the king of Róż Avenue? We’ll find out on the last night of the year! (Artur Jackowski, "Karnet" monthly)
