A fascinating world of airborne machines amid the scenery of one of the oldest permanent airfields in Europe.

The museum takes up some space and structures of the former Rakowice-Czyżyny military airfield, one of the first airports in Europe. It presents aeroplanes, helicopters, gliders, aircraft engines, and plenty of unique objects of world aviation. The exhibition in the modern main building, resembling a revolving plane propeller, when seen from above, offers an introduction to the world of bygone aviation. The collection of aircraft presented here includes one of the first French aeroplanes from 1909, and one of the only two RWD 13 machines of Polish construction from the 1930s that has survived until our times throughout the entire world. The educational section offers pilot seatsairline armchairs, a flight simulator, and a cross-section of a plane. The museum organises temporary exhibitions, workshops, events, and air shows on the premises of the former airport, including the highly popular Małopolska Air Picnic: a two-day show of historical aeroplanes and airborne acrobatics.
