Carefree Cinema

Even when student life is behind us and life forces us to spend eight hours a day on things other than R&R, there is still something about the summer holidays which makes us feel light-hearted. So let’s catch up on watching some films!

The Summer Cinema Harvest continues throughout the summer (29 June – 30 August) – the film marathon is divided into nine weekly thematic blocks with a total of over 100 movies. The programme includes some of the most popular titles from recent seasons, including The Shape of Water awarded four Oscars and the Golden Lion at Venice, Loving Vincent nominated for the Golden Globe and the Academy Award, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri with the outstanding Frances McDormand in the starring role. The review also recalls cult classics such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s and – especially for summertime visitors – a selection of Polish films with English subtitles, including Piotr Domalewski’s Silent Night (hailed Poland’s best film of 2017) and Łukasz Palkowski’s Breaking the Limits awarded at the Cottbus Film Festival. The programme also includes productions selected by viewers, while poster collectors are bound to find some gems at the traditional poster fair. (Barbara Zajac, Karnet magazine)
