During the Philharmonic Music Summer, the Kraków Philharmonic swaps symphonies for meetings with chamber music – occasionally unexpected but always captivating. In July the Cracow Horn Quartet performs Music for the Royal Fireworks, Libertango and Air on the G String. The Kraków Philharmonic Bassoon Quartet present their take on Chopin’s Mazurka Op. 7 No. 1 and the overture to Verdi’s Traviata. The next two concerts feature music for violin and harp (Jadwiga Bialic and Elżbieta Bakalarz) and violin and guitar (Paweł Wajrak and Michał Nagy): we will hear Fantaisie Op. 124 by Saint-Saëns, Intermezzo from Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, Bartók’s Romanian Dances and Ourkouzounov’s Sonatina Bulgarica.
August brings concertos for two violins performed by Anna and Paweł Wójtowicz, and works by Liget, Ibert, Kilar, Barber and Farkas for the wind Cracow Golden Quintet. Cracow Clarinet Quartet focuses on their take on the Peer Gynt suite and the Rhapsody in Blue. The Philhamonia Music Summer ends with Handel’s sonatas for two oboes and basso continuo performed by Mariusz Pędziałek, Paweł Nyklewicz (oboes), Paulina Tkaczyk (harpsichord) and Michał Dąbek (cello). (Barbara Skowrońska)

Kraków Philharmonic Hall

Besides their weekly symphony concerts, the Kraków Philharmonic also organises master recitals and educational concerts for children and young people.

The Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic Hall in Kraków was the first philharmonic to open in Poland after the Second World War. Besides the weekly symphony concerts, it organises master recitals and educational concerts for children and young people, while the summer meetings with music assume the form of chamber concerts of slightly lighter character. A hallmark of the Kraków Philharmonic repertoire is its programme of oratorios, which the Philharmonic can present thanks to its extensive and varied lineup: the orchestra, mixed choir, and boys choir. The Kraków Philharmonic has become recognised for its promotion of the works of Karol Szymanowski in Poland and abroad.

The Philharmonic Hall frequently hosts concerts by special guests, for example, at major festivals.
