We’ve been acquainted since the Middle Ages, when the short-legged dog first appeared in Germany – where he answered to Teckel. For the last 23 years, he’s been taking to Kraków’s streets for an annual stomp, or perhaps trot. Who are we talking about? Let’s hear from experts: “dachshunds are muscular hounds with an elongated body and compact silhouette; they carry their heads high with a smart expression; they are agile hunting dogs.” More informally? Following centuries spent squeezing into tight burrows, today’s dachshunds fit perfectly in narrow spaces between sofa cushions. But if they want to join us for Sunday walkies, get the leads ready! On 9 September, the Dachshund Parade – the city’s longest pageant – sets off from the Floriańska Gate. The organisers have plenty in store for our favourite dogs’ humans: the Rynek Główny hosts plenty of attractions such as meetings with dog behaviour specialists, groomers and pet sitters, as well as providing loving owners with the option to chip their charges.

For whom: for children, for seniors, for families
Other: open air event, free admission, acceptable for people with disabilities
