Black-and-white keyboards producing a dazzling palette of colours and emotions: the International Royal Cracow Piano Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary (7-21 October)! This year’s programme abounds with music by Fryderyk Chopin, performed by George Emmanuel Lazaridis and the acclaimed interpreter of the Polish composer Ludmil Angelov. The greatest challenge is faced by Henri Sigfridsson: the Finnish artist performs the full cycle of Etudes Op. 10 and Op. 25 in Leopold Godowsky’s famously difficult arrangement for left hand written at the turn of the 20th century. Festival guests also present music from their home countries: Jitka Čechova’s recital features works by Bedřich Smetana, while Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro reaches for compositions by José Vianna da Motta, Portuguese pianist and composer and one of Liszt’s final pupils. The festival closes with a concert for four hands: the Italian duo Marco Schiavo and Sergio Marchegiani perform Mozart’s Sonata in C major K. 521 and a selection of Brahms’s Hungarian Dances.
