It is rumoured that one in ten of all Cracovians have Ukrainian roots, so let’s learn more about the culture and art of our eastern neighbours! And the 6th International Festival of Ukrainian Theatre “East-West” (7-15 April) is the perfect opportunity. This year’s leading motif is “There was once theatre”. “This year we want to showcase the roots of Ukrainian theatre, its founders and reformers,” explains Nadiia Moroz-Olshanska, director of the festival. We will see nineteen theatres from Ukraine, Armenia, Germany, Finland, Poland and Israel performing at venues including the Henryk Jordan Youth Centre, the Groteska and Zależny Theatres and at the Ludowy Theatre. Katarzyna Deszcz presents her spectacle At the Start and End of the World, telling the story of a family living illegally in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone near the abandoned nuclear power station.
