Blechacz and Kim at the Kraków Philharmonic

Behold an encounter of two great personalities of Polish music competitions: Rafał Blechacz, winner of the Chopin Piano Competition in 2005 performs alongside Bomsori Kim, awarded the 2nd prize in the Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in 2016! The dream team came together as a stroke of luck: the pianist watched the Korean violinist’s performance on TV and got in touch to suggest they work together. In January this year, Deutsche Grammophon launched their first joint album (for Bomsori Kim it is a debut with this prestigious label), and the artists embarked on a tour of Europe, Asia and America. They come to the Kraków Philharmonic on 29 May to present sonatas from their album by Fauré (Kim’s favourite composer), Szymanowski (picked by Blechacz) and Debussy (beloved by both artists), as well as Mozart’s Sonata in F major K. 376. The elegant abandon of the instrumentalists, their drive for perfection, attention to the best possible quality of sound and mutual understanding promises an unforgettable evening! Besides their weekly symphony concerts, the Kraków Philharmonic also organises master recitals and educational concerts for children and young people.
The Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic Hall in Kraków was the first philharmonic to open in Poland after the Second World War. Besides the weekly symphony concerts, it organises master recitals and educational concerts for children and young people, while the summer meetings with music assume the form of chamber concerts of slightly lighter character. A hallmark of the Kraków Philharmonic repertoire is its programme of oratorios, which the Philharmonic can present thanks to its extensive and varied lineup: the orchestra, mixed choir, and boys choir. The Kraków Philharmonic has become recognised for its promotion of the works of Karol Szymanowski in Poland and abroad.
The Philharmonic Hall frequently hosts concerts by special guests, for example, at major festivals.
