Encouraged by the success of last year’s festival, the organisers of Musica Divina bring the second instalment of events taking place “in a space sanctified by prayer and tradition”. Between 6 and 14 August, we will hear six concerts joined by the common idea of experiencing sacrum through music. They are held in some of Kraków’s most beautiful churches, including the Church on the Rock, the Basilica of St. Mary and the Franciscan Church.

La Nuove Musiche from Slovakia presents works by Monteverdi and his contemporary Italian composers, the acclaimed Graindelavoix Ensemble from Antwerp performs Penitential Psalms by Orlando di Lasso, while Tavagna recalls the traditions of Corsican polyphonic singing. Divine music also features in mysterious songs from the Nuckö region in Estonia, brought to life by the Frima-Ambrosini-Vicens trio, and in the 17th and 18th century French repertoire based on the Old Testament performed by Ensemble Barocum. During the finale, Sirin from Belarus presents inspired old Ruthenian music. (Sebastian Rerak)
