A Fresh Look
We start the next chapter in the rich history of Jazz Juniors (27-30 November): the artistic director of this year’s event is the celebrated saxophonist Adam Pierończyk who oversees the festival programme, heads the competition jury and presents his latest project. To start with, we head to Cricoteka where we will hear other outstanding saxophonists: Will Vinson from the UK, and Mark Turner from the US performing in a duo with Ethan Iverson. On the following days we explore chamber (Yûmi Ito / Szymon Mika), classical and improvised music (Markus Stockhausen Intuitive Music Orchestra), jazz intertwined with electronica (Gniewomir Tomczyk Project) and hip-hop (Soweto Kinch Trio). For the finale we head to the Museum of Municipal Engineering where the Dutch cellist Ernst Reijseger presents a solo recital, while the French percussionist Mino Cinélu is joined by Adam Pierończyk to premiere fresh material. Competition reviews, concerts by last year’s frontrunners Marcin Pater Trio and this year’s winners and jam sessions will be heart at Piec Art, while panels, discussions and workshops are at the ICE Kraków Congress Centre.
