The Opera Rara Festival presents again works rarely heard in theatres and at festivals, works usually (and unjustly!) left out of the opera canon and/or mainstream. The 2020 edition will be no different. We begin with Gioacchino Rossini’s bel canto opera Sigismondo, followed by Antonín Dvořák’s romantic Vanda, Claudio Monteverdi’s Baroque Il ballo delle Ingrate complemented by modern compositions by Teoniki Rożynek, and Enoch Arden based on a poem by Alfred Tennyson with music by Richard Strauss. The programme will be rounded off by two contemporary operas: Udo Zimmermann’s Weiße Rose and a joint work by dramatist Krystian Lada and composer Katarzyna Głowicka Unknown, I Live With You. The festival will be held between 23 January and 14 February 2020.
