Donkey House

Donkey, Donkey! What do you do?
Carry loads for all of you.
Donkey, Donkey, what do you eat?
Oh! Grass and leaves and carrots so sweet.
(“Donkey, Donkey”, nursery rhyme)
Take a good look at the Donkey House – can you see that it’s an interesting dark colour? This is because the architect Teodor Talowski – remember him? – used bricks of his own recipe made at his own brickyard. He wanted all of his buildings to look older than they really were. The sculpture on the façade depicts a donkey’s head, giving the building its name.
