Simply Cinema
Once again, Pod Baranami Cinema presents its 14th Summer Cinema Harvest (until 27 August), making also its first ever foray online on www.e-kinopodbaranami.pl, which also presents weekly screenings of bonus films. The August instalment is divided into four cycles. We will see great sports achievements: Maiden tells the story of a former cook on charter boats who became the skipper of the first-ever all-female crew to enter an acclaimed round-the-world race, while Free Solo profiles the first-ever rock climber to scale the monumental face of El Capitan with no support or safety equipment. We will explore a director’s confrontation with his past in Pain and Glory, immerse ourselves in the escapades of British aristocrats in Downton Abbey, join an impoverished family living on the outskirts of Tokyo in Shoplifters, and find out about far-reaching consequences of a single lie in The Farewell. We’ll go on a journey from America’s East (A Rainy Day in New York) to the West Coast (La La Land), find out how A Star Is Born and watch the ups-and-downs in the lives of Little Women. The programme also features SF (Blade Runner 2049, Ex Machina), epic crime (Birds of Passage) and horror comedy (The Dead Don’t Die). Like black-and-white films? Fans of classical cinema and foreign trips head on Roman Holiday. There will also be traditional screenings under the stars at the courtyard of the Pod Baranami Palace. Regular viewers will be rewarded for their persistence: once you’ve seen eight films, entry to the ninth is free! Go on, give it a go!
