A fascinating clash between modern architecture with the past shown through old photos of Kraków – if you haven’t been to the ICE Kraków Congress Centre yet, it’s definitely time to visit! The multi-purpose space of the stateof-the-art venue presents images of the city as it appeared in the past from private collections and public archives.

The photo exhibition Cracovian Nostalgia – Images of a Bygone Era takes us down a memory lane through 20th-century Kraków, and reminds us that modernity can happily coexist with heritage and history. “The beautiful, modern building of ICE Kraków becomes a temporary setting for photos of the past and allows us to trace the fascinating changes of which we are witnesses, participators and, at times, initiators. What did Baudelaire mean when he wrote ‘The shape of a city, as we all know, changes more quickly than the mortal heart’?” asks Katarzyna Cieślik, creative director of the LueLue Gallery, co-organiser of the exhibition.

The gallery has been giving new leases of life to archival photos of Kraków for over ten years. The rescued, digitised images come together into a map of the city as it once was, show people who shaped its atmosphere, and explore former fashions and now forgotten trends and hobbies. They stir our imaginations, let us breathe the air of old streets and hear the clatter of heels on the cobbles of the Main Market Square… The exhibition is part of the city campaign "Become a Visitor in Your Own City! Explore Kraków", which has been revealing less-well-known, often surprising corners of Kraków over the last few months. Entry to the exhibition is free!
