18th Festival of Polish Music

Friday, July 8, 2022 - Saturday, July 30, 2022

We will hear music ranging from early to contemporary, works known the world over and those still waiting to be discovered, expansive vocal and instrumental compositions and chamber music and duets… But the diverse repertoire has a white-and-red common denominator. Because this festival hasn’t been created to argue that Chopin is better than Liszt, Moniuszko more interesting than Smetana and Szymanowski more important than Vaughan Williams. Its organisers simply show that Polish music is fascinating and worth listening to.

During the 18th Festival of Polish Music don’t miss the concert featuring the phenomenal Miranda Liu – her contemporary take on Henryk Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 1 rediscovers this rather overfamiliar piece, while the Czech conductor František Macek leads the Silesian Philharmonic in Igor Stravinsky’s interpretations of Chopin. There’s also Mykietyn–Chopin–Kilar programme and Ballads and Romances interpreted by Wojciech Parchem and Dagmara Dudzińska marking the 200th anniversary of the first edition of Adam Mickiewicz’s poetry collection. The festival will be rounded off by the recital of the outstanding pianist Kyohei Sorita, awarded second prize at the 18th Chopin Competition 2021.
