Groteska Theatre
ul. Skarbowa 2
The repertoire of the Groteska contains both puppetry productions for children and plays staged for adults, which combine various forms of artistic expression.
The Theatre of Puppets, Masks, and Actors – Groteska was set up in 1945 as a puppet theatre, being an initiative of Zofia and Władysław Jarema. Right from the start, it worked with an amazing team of Polish visual artists. The stage was graced by works of Sławomir Mrożek, Tadeusz Różewicz, Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński, and Bertold Brecht. There is more to the Groteska than just puppetry for children and young people, as a stage for adults has operated here for years, combining various forms of artistic expression: the actors’ play, dance, and visual theatre, making use of an array of props, including masks and puppets.
