March Melting Pot

The month kicks off with Carnival! In the first few days in March, there’s still time to make the most of sweet seasonal customs, especially on Shrovetide in Kraków on 3 March when we come together to make traditional delicacies. And even though the expansive Opera Rara and Materia Prima festivals brought colour to February, we are surely relieved to say goodbye to winter for another year. Speaking of colour, the Kraków Comic Book Festival attracts growing interest from authors and fans. Contemporary design and fashion shows are the highlight of the Cracow Fashion Week. How about concerts? The ICE Classic cycle features a performance by Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, and the programme of this year’s Bach Days is as dazzling as ever. There are also stars from myriad genres of popular music, from John Mayall and Loreena McKennitt to hot, exotic rhythms and lively improvisations from Regina Carter with her jazz violin. From the multitude of events arises the brand-new Museum of Nowa Huta, while the International Cultural Centre presents an exhibition dedicated to the cultural and political melting pot of early-20th century Europe and its avant-garde art.

And since the weather is getting warmer and we are slowly starting to brave the great outdoors again, the Navigator festival dedicated to worldly-wise adventurers and globetrotters is the perfect time to hoist our sails…
