Flavours of August

1 August 2019

Kraków is the European Capital of Gastronomic Culture for 2019, and in our calendars August is perhaps the most delicious month, with tantalising aromas filling the city and confirming its reputation as a culinary stronghold. The Pierogi Festival, Kraków Picnics held alternately at the Krakowski and Bednarski parks, the Folk Art Fair and the Harvest Festival abound with traditional Polish delicacies as well as hosting culinary and baking workshops, concerts, presentations, artistic meetings…

Festivals including Music in Old Cracow, Musica Divina, Wawel at Dusk and Ars Cameralis, monumental sounds of the organ at churches from the Basilica of St Mary to the Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec – August events include myriad concerts of music ranging from Baroque and classical to the freshest pop. The latter is provided by the Kraków Live Festival and the Czeluść Festival, as well as the outdoor finale of the decade-old national campaign Summer with the Radio. And don’t forget the 70th anniversary of Nowa Huta! This year’s celebrations include the “Operetta Gala” at the Róż Avenue and the extensive programme of the Boulev[art]. If you fancy a day or two away from Kraków, there is the Kromer Biecz Festival and the Pannonica Festival enchanting with folk rhythms. Summer is drawing to a close, so make sure you explore all flavours of August…

Happy tasting!
