“Karnet” 2/2020 – READ ONLINE

We start with a journey to the past! We head to Wawel for the exhibition “Treasures of the Piast Dynasty” where we’ll admire the most precious insignia of Poland’s kings, the Szczerbiec sword and the spear of St Maurice. The exhibition “Wawel Recovered” reveals the history and difficulties of returning the royal castle complex to its former glory at the turn of the 20th century. The National Museum takes us back in time to medieval times, revealing the symbolism of stained-glass windows. But the future is also ours to explore: we are accompanied by extra-terrestrial “futurenauts” at the Museum of Municipal Engineering. The present day with all its light and dark aspects is shown at the acclaimed annual exhibition of winning works of World Press Photo at the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre. And while you’re there, make sure you check out the new permanent exhibition dedicated to Jerzy Duda-Gracz!

The ongoing Opera Rara Festival offers an incisive commentary on our reality and aims to refresh the artistic formula of operatic spectacles and to return its former social function, integrating and unifying us in the face of dangers. And as we lose ourselves in the maze of improvised (Kaczmarczyk/Słowiński), pop (Maluma), electronic (OMD) and rock music (Editors) and shanties (Shanties Festival), let’s also remember the 75th anniversary of the Kraków Philharmonic, celebrated with a gala performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

Let’s get discovering!
