The August Great Outdoors

29 July 2020

It’s not just the ongoing restrictions due to the pandemic, but the long, warm summer days and evenings that make August the perfect time to explore Kraków’s cultural life under the open sky. The regular weekend cycle Musical Outdoors brings sounds in a relaxed atmosphere, while the Kraków Picnic repeats its tried-and-tested formula bringing fun, games and summertime cinema to Kraków’s beautiful parks. But other venues are joining in on the act, too: this year’s Boulev[art] comes to the garden by the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre, while the National Museum in Krakow has created the ArtSfera zone at the former Cracovia Hotel. All organisers are coming up with fresh ideas to bring art to Kraków and Cracovians!

It’s easy to be a tourist in your own city in August… We can relax and meet friends under the glorious blue skies, and set off on extraordinary journeys. The EtnoKrakow/Crossroads festival transports us to music from different continents, culminating with the finale concert at the Small Market Square. The cycle of outdoor concerts, prepared by the Dworek Białoprądnicki Cultural Centre, follows a similar idea. If you’re after something more serious, then the steadfast “Music in Old Cracow” Festival explores the world of classical sounds during the second half of August. As usual, its concerts resound in beautiful church and museum interiors – as do events of the Festival of Polish Music, postponed from July.

Let’s go!
