Marek Grechuta Krakowski Park
ul. Szymanowskiego / al. Mickiewicza
Krakowski Park was founded in 1885 on a former military site on the initiative of the city councillor Stanisław Rehman. Its layout followed the classic arrangement of Viennese parks: it held cafés, a concert pavilion, a summer theatre, a pond and even a small menagerie. Until the First World War, it was home to the city’s most fashionable ice skating rink with the most expensive tickets, with skating sessions regular accompanied by a military band.
In 2018, Krakowski Park underwent extensive renovations and it was renamed after the beloved Cracovian singer-songwriter Marek Grechuta. The site now covers an area of five hectares and is home to a playground, picnic tables, chess tables, water fountains, a mobile book exchange point and reading room and a separate smoking zone. There is also a brand-new boules and petanque area. The park is filled with flowerbeds blooming from early spring to late autumn. You will also find a renovated miniature chapel (former lantern of the dead), a pond with a fountain and 19 sculptures made in the 1970s.
