Opera buffa La serva padrona (The Servant Turned Mistress) with libretto by Gennaro Antonio Federico belongs to the most famous works of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. It is a kind of apologue, or moral fable, about female shrewdness which eventually allows women to get the better of men. In the plot, a servant tricks her master into marrying her. However, the servant really does love the man, which softens the story’s underlying cynicism.

The performance of the Kraków Chamber Opera, held on the 290th anniversary of the premiere of the work, offers stylish costumes, carefully described and individualised characters and rich vocal display.

The productions in which both the word and music count are co-produced by singers, actors, and dancers; with puppets and masks likewise having a respected status in the activity on stage. The artists of the Kraków Chamber Opera also present their productions outside the main seat of the institution, for example eagerly performing in Kraków churches.
