27th Last Night of the Proms in Cracow
Saturday, September 23, 2023, 7:00 PM
Held since 1996, the popular Proms Concerts in Kraków are a favourite instalment of the early autumn events calendar. Inspired by the long-standing tradition of celebratory concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Kraków also bids farewell to summer with an all-singing music gala.
The Last Night of the Proms in Cracow is a unique, one of a kind concert experience: it combines the highest possible artistic standard with spontaneous behaviour of the audience which breaks into choral singing of the songs from the final pieces of the programme. The audience is inspired by the conductor to join in the fun and behaves less formally. Flags and hats distributed before the concert as well as the special decoration of the hall are conducive to such festive atmosphere.
The stars of this year’s instalment are the soprano Aleksandra Orłowska, the baritone Szymoan Komasa and violinist Mariusz Patyra. As always, the programme features traditional British songs such as Rule Britannia and Jerusalem, and closes with the national anthems of Poland and the UK. The concert is led by Piotr Sułkowski conducting the Kraków Opera Choir and Orchestra.
