Royal Opera Festival 2024
Friday, June 21, 2024, 7:30 PM
There is one man, who has been reigning supreme on the European stages for 200 years. His name? Gioacchino Rossini. The festival, which focuses on the works of the master of belcanto, showcases his operas - both the lesser-known ones and the most famous works. This time, we are going to see two comedies L'italiana in Algeri, which Rossini created as a 21-year-old, and Le comte Ory, one of his first operas written for Parisian stages, and one of the last ones he composed - for the remaining 40 years of his life he never returned to the genre again. The showcase of the artist's oeuvre will be complemented by the wonderfully orchestrated Messa di Gloria, most certainly inspired by Rossini.
The works by the Swan of Pesaro will be presented against the backdrop of pieces composed by Schubert, who was enchanted and inspired by his music, including the Italian Overture and an aria from the singspiel Die Freunde von Salamanka. We will also listen to Masaniello - an opera by Michele Carafa, Rossini’s friend and colleague, who accompanied him during horseback through the Bois de Boulogne.
It is also worth mentioning that the Royal Opera Festival, launched five years ago, is going from strength to strength: in addition to the Kraków Philharmonic, this year's co-organisers include the Kraków Opera House and the Krzysztof Penderecki European Music Center in Lusławice.
