FestivALT 2024
Friday, June 21, 2024 - Tuesday, July 2, 2024
FestivALT, a Jewish-run cultural organisation, tackles Jewish themes in the context of Polish modernity in its festival of contemporary art, performance and activism. This year's festival theme - Gilgul, which is the Jewish concept of reincarnation - becomes a starting point for developing artistic activities and asking difficult questions in a series of concerts, performances, film screenings and meetings. The concert starting the Sabbath and the festival will feature Mikołaj Trzaska and Natan Kryszk.
In the following days, we will see IN || TENT by Dominika Laster and Triada by Betty Q. We will also have an opportunity to enjoy an evening of queer burlesque performed by Jewish-American artists Lolita Va Voom and Nana Schewitz (Jews! Jews! Jews!). On the stage of the Barakah Theatre, Maciej Stuhr will play President... Maciej Stuhr in a satirical and futuristic play Jeszcze Polska nie zginęła by Dorota Abbe and Michael Rubenfeld, presenting a vision of Poland with millions of Israeli Jews coming back.
These are just some of the events in the programme, crowned by Julie Weitz's ritual performance Holy Names for Our Dybbuk depicting the exorcism of a dybbuk through contemporary art means.
