Opera Rara Kraków | autumn edition
Friday, October 25, 2024
“How wonderful the opera would be if there were no singers in it...” Gioacchino Rossini once reportedly sighed with distinctive irony. Let us sigh, too: dear maestro, it may be a gaffe, but we dare to disagree with you. Especially after looking at the programme of the autumn part of the Opera Rara Kraków festival, which started with a recital by Philippe Jaroussky already in August. In September, Rossini’s (ironically!) Aureliano in Palmira, featuring another outstanding countertenor, Franco Fagioli, will be masterfully performed on historical instruments – which is still quite rare for operas by the bel canto master – by the Capella Cracoviensis, which organises the festival. Opera Rara Kraków will also bring a presentation of The Theater of Music ensemble exploring mainly the 17th-century English repertoire and performances by CC in Czechia and Germany. The event will culminate in the celebration of World Opera Day in the Opera Party / Open Stage formula, which will allow the audience to become performers for a while.
