What will old Kraków sound like this year? As for the opening of the 49th Music in Old Cracow Festival, it will be Mozart's virtuoso Flute Concerto in G major (with soloist Łukasz Długosz) and Beethoven's Eroica performed by the Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maciej Tworek. As you can see (and hear!), the festival founded by Stanisław Gałoński, which celebrates a very round anniversary next year, is not slowing down. It is worth noting the excellent representation of early music: Rorantists with the Wawel repertoire, Collegium Zieleński with a wide selection of the patron’s works, or Kraków Viol Consort, which will take us back to the 16th and 17th century. Elżbieta Stefańska and Mariko Kato-Shioya will prove that the harpsichord works equally well in works of ancient and contemporary masters. A hot spirit will be added by Roby Lakatos – the "mad violinist" will present a cocktail of classical music, jazz, gypsy rhythms, musical tunes and Hungarian csárdás. L'viv Virtuosos under the baton of Serhiy Burko – regular guests of Music in Old Cracow – will play works of the Ukrainian composer Miroslav Skoryk. Meanwhile, a young Dutch pianist Maxime Snaterse will play at the festival for the first time. And finally, in the very impressive finale, Krzysztof Jakowicz and the Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra will present Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor.
