Morphing & Johann Strauss Gala at ICE Kraków
Saturday, February 8, 2025, 6:00 PM
The source of Johann Strauss's son's dizzying success are the waltzes and polkas brimming with lightness and joie de vivre, which have been present at all respectable concerts or New Year's balls for years. In the spirit of carnival fun and celebration of the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth, let us get carried away by his music, which will be played for us by the Vienna Morphing Chamber Orchestra. Founded and led by Polish violinist and viola player Tomasz Wabnic, the ensemble has recorded albums with the giants of the opera world: soprano Aleksandra Kurzak and tenor Roberto Alagna, or the master of early music, countertenor Andreas Scholl. He has also collaborated successfully with American jazz singer Bobby McFerrin. This versatility of the orchestra is also reflected in the Morphing & Johann Strauss Gala programme. The highlight here will, of course, be the Waltz King and his Banditen-Galopp, polkas Ohne Sorgen and Tritsch-Tratsch, waltzes Kaiser-Walzer and The Sound of Spring or operetta Die Fledermaus (selected excerpts will be sung by Anna Voshege, soloist at the Wiener Staatsoper), and the repertoire will be rounded off by contemporary compositions by Stephan Koncz and Rachel Portman with solo parts by violinist Niklas Liepe. The whole event will close – how could it not! – with a famous waltz: The Blue Danube.
