29th Bach Days
Monday, March 10, 2025 - Sunday, March 16, 2025
The motto for this year’s Bach Days comes from a famous rondeau by Guillaume de Machaut, a brilliant late medieval artist: My end is my beginning. The organisers leave the interpretation of this thought up to the audience, but they deliberately choose the repertoire we will hear. ‘Our intention will be to show the “borderline” pieces that are timeless and transcend their era; the works that are innovative and absolute,’ announces Zbigniew Pilch, Ph.D., Professor of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków (AMKP). Thus, we will hear Johann Sebastian Bach’s Die Kunst der Fuge and Goldberg Variations, Joseph Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ or Johann Kuhnau’s Biblical Sonatas. Among the performers, we will find outstanding harpsichordists connected with the Academy of Music in Kraków: Joanna Kwinta-Zielińska, Marek Toporowski and Aleksander Mocek, outstanding violinist Sirkka-Liisa Kaakinen-Pilch, and viola da gamba virtuoso Rainer Zipperling. The talented students of the Kraków academy will present works from the Middle Ages to the present day, while in the opening concert, the AMKP Baroque Orchestra led by Zbigniew Pilch will focus on concertante compositions by the patron of the Days.
