Hearing: ‘Mahler’, you think: ‘Symphony’! The Kraków Philharmonic invites all music lovers to an event that synthesises the work of one of the most outstanding symphonists in the history of music by presenting his most significant works. During the Gustav Maher Festival, the Austrian composer’s symphonies, from No. 2 to No. 9, will be tackled by the Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra and guests: the Polish Radio Orchestra, Sinfonia Iuventus and the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra, and the conductor’s desk will be occupied, among others, by Sascha Goetzel, Michał Klauza, Antoni Wit, Gabor Hollerung and Łukasz Borowicz. There will be no shortage of fine voices (Izabela Matuła and Anna Bernacka in Symphony No. 2 in C minor "Resurrection” or Małgorzata Pańko-Edery in Symphony No. 3 in D minor) and choral parts emphasising the dramatic impact – after all, Mahler is a continuer of the great tradition of vocal-instrumental symphony and a spiritual heir to Beethoven. The festival will conclude with a performance of Symphony No. 8 in E flat major, known as the Symphony of a Thousand due to its huge cast, which will be performed as part of the FeelharmonICE series at the end of the artistic season. The ICE Kraków’s stage will feature all the ensembles of the Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the Polish Radio Choir Lusławice and the Kraków Opera Choir, with Alexander Humala overseeing the entire event.
