‘The radical July afternoon sun and the radically austere, soothing music-filled darkness of Łaźnia’ – this is how Capella Cracoviensis telegraphically explains the title of the series of chamber concerts that it will present in Łaźnia Nowa in July as part of Boulev[art]. There are more contrasts here: historical instruments in a post-industrial space, a hushed ascetic interior and the adjacent lush greenery by the Nowa Huta Reservoir, which invites picnic lovers (the organisers do encourage you to bring a blanket and victuals!). This will be the perfect culmination of concerts featuring Schubert’s Piano Trio No. 2, which soothes the hustle and bustle of everyday life, an epic story in small form – Wagner's Piano Sonata in A minor, the sensuous Wesendonck-Lieder by the same composer, Mendelssohn’s Double Concerto in D minor for violin and piano, where everything resembles a song (as usual in his works), and the String Quintet in F major by Bruckner, one of the great “radicals” of classical music. Solo parts in masterpieces by 19th century  giants will be performed, among others, by violinist Robert Bachara, pianist Wioletta Fluda-Tkaczyk and soprano Jolanta Kowalska-Pawlikowska.

Łaźnia Nowa Theatre

os. Szkolne 25

The Łaźnia Nowa is a venue for unconventional productions, concerts, meetings, and happenings that bring together artistic and community-based  activity. The main organiser of the Boska Komedia / Divine Comedy festival.

One of the latest arrivals on the Kraków theatre scene, the Łaźnia Nowa (literally ‘the New Baths’) has operated at osiedle Szkolne in Nowa Huta since 2005. Besides theatre performances, it is a venue of concerts, meetings, happenings, and projects combining artistic and community-based activity, that frequently go beyond the space of the theatre. The Łaźnia Nowa is a member of the Trans Europe Halles international association gathering institutions operating in post-industrial spaces, and is the organiser of the Boska Komedia / Divine Comedy International Theatre Festival.
