Philharmonic Music Summer 2025
Saturday, July 5, 2025, 6:00 PM
Unforgettable TV series themes for three trombones and tuba, The Beatles' She Loves You for four bassoons, themes from Pulp Fiction and The Last of the Mohicans played by five cellos and a classical string quartet taking on musical tunes from Porgy and Bess and West Side Story – the repertoire of the July concerts in the Philharmonic Music Summer series fully reflects the holiday mood and summer chill. In addition, instead of a large symphonic cast, we will be admiring the capabilities and versatility of the Kraków Philharmonic’s artists in chamber ensembles – often completely unorthodox, as you can see from our introduction. The Brass Riders, a quartet of bassoonists, the Cellostrada quintet and the Żeleński String Quartet invite you to discover their extraordinary sound on successive Saturdays in July. For the first three concerts, we will meet in the gardens of the Austrian Consulate General, then (until the end of August) we will move to the palm house in the Botanical Garden.
The August edition will feature hits of Polish popular music performed by classical musicians, who can also be quite frivolous in the summer, miniatures of 19th and 20th century classical masters performed by four viola players and a cellist, and holiday waltzes and polkas imported directly from 19th century Vienna. The programme dedicated to Stanisław Moniuszko on the 150th anniversary of his death will be intimate, lyrical and folkloric, and at the very end of the summer holidays, songs of Kabaret Starszych Panów and Henryk Wars will be sung by the Kraków Philharmonic Men's Vocal Ensemble.
