In this land, a young and beautiful widow with millions sets out to conquer Paris to find a new husband, Countess Maritza and Tassilo are finally able to profess their love after many adventures, supposed French marquises and fake Hungarian princesses are having the best time at the Prince Orlofsky’s ball, and the gypsy baron Sandor Barinkay sings that great fame is a joke. What is this place? Obviously, a land of joy and smiles that the Operetta Gala will recreate for us in the open air of Nowa Huta. Audience gathered by the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre will hear from the stage melodies from Die Fledermaus, The Gypsy Baron and The Bird Seller, beloved not only by the 19th century Vienna, as well as excerpts from masterpieces of Hungarian operetta: The Csardas Princess, Countess Maritza, The Land of Smiles and The Merry Widow, which took Europe and America by storm in the early 20th century. Performers will include Katarzyna Mackiewicz, Jakub Oczkowski as well as Monika Biederman-Pers and Piotr Karzełek in a singing and dancing duet. They will be accompanied by the Arte Symfoniko Orchestra conducted by Mieczysław Smyda and the Jagiellonian University Song and Dance Ensemble ‘Słowianki’; the light, airy evening with operetta, which will certainly bring lots of opportunities to laugh, will be hosted by Olga Bończyk and Kacper Kuszewski.
