The main theme of the event and its key purpose is to restore the tradition of music salons as an important element of the cultural life of 19th-century Kraków and a space for the free expression of national identity during the Partitions. The programme of this year’s edition features another theme that can be discovered by keen listeners: works by Polish artists and creators of Polish descent, who lived and worked outside their homeland in different eras and for different reasons, usually not due to their own choice. We are going to listen to the works by Maurycy Moszkowski and Roman Palester, Szymon Laks and Roman Ryterband, Henryk Wars (presented by the V4 string quartet with Miranda Liu!), Mieczysław Wajnberg, Philipp Scharwenka and Zygmunt Stojowski. Johann Sebastian Bach’s gamba sonatas will be showcased by cellist Bartosz Koziak and harpsichordist Elżbieta Stefańska, the hostess of the concert, which will take place in the actual music salon, which is still active today. During the festival’s finale, the piano duo Charles Owen and Katya Apekisheva will present works by Władysław Żeleński and Witold Lutosławski juxtaposed with Mozart’s and Schubert’s compositions.
