Edyta Olszewska. Glitter on my Eyelids
Friday, September 5, 2025, 6:00 PM - Saturday, September 20, 2025
Light in painting is more than just a visual effect; it is a carrier of ideas, a boundary between the divine and the earthly. In art, it has always served both as a tool for emphasizing the form of the body and as a vehicle for transcendence, almost a presence of divinity within the frame. This dual role of light, both its function and symbolism as well as its dense, captivating materiality, became the starting point for the creation of the exhibition "Glitter on My Eyelids."
It is an immersion into the realm of the sacred and the profane, where the central figure is the woman and her corresponding archetypes. These are guided by light, which illuminates ritual elements in the same way it does luxurious garments. The interiors of temples and nightclubs are bathed in similar light. The disco ball gleams much like the tears of the Madonna, evoking elements of jewelry. Religious archetypes are contrasted with contemporary opulence and eroticism. In the same place where love and passion dwell, obsession begins. Saints stand side by side with lovers, echoing Bernini’s Saint Teresa. For love and religious obsession are nearly identical phenomena, driven by devotion, fervor, and passion, blurring the boundaries between the sacred and the profane.
