Power of Photography 2025
Wednesday, October 1, 2025 - Friday, October 31, 2025
In October, the photographic medium in its various forms traditionally rules in the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre.
The set of six exhibitions planned for this year opens with a jubilee presentation of 70 years of the Kraków Photographic Club. The broad overview of the interests of the members of one of the oldest such groups in Poland includes nature, tourism, family and reportage photography, as well as architecture photography, traditional and creative portraits, taken in the studio or outdoors, and sport or street photography. Italian IT expert, Massimo Bonutto, in turn, has a passion for travel and reportage photography; his Odisha - A Journey to Tribal India takes us to an extraordinary land famous for its ethnic and cultural heritage. Together with the author, we enter the foothill villages to admire the richness and diversity of the costumes of representatives of 62 local tribes at the traditional weekly markets. The exhibition of the photojournalist and columnist Arkadiusz Gola: The Other Side of the Brick provides a glimpse into the everyday life of the inhabitants of contemporary Silesia. Simple frames from flats show cracked walls, furniture from different eras, objects that have their own history... The Underwater Photography of Piotr Stós, on the other hand, attracts – not only passionate divers – with its dreamlike atmosphere and wide range of subjects: from microscopic inhabitants of the sea bed, through sunken wrecks and silhouettes of divers, to majestic landscapes of the coral reefs (the author will meet with the public on October 9, at 18.00). Tomasz Gudzowaty, one of Poland’s most internationally recognised creators of documentary and artistic photography, associated with perfectly composed, precise frames thought-out down to the last detail, surprises with his unusual approach to the subject of sumo. In the exhibition Are-Bure-Bokeh (the title refers to the aesthetic inspired by the work of photographers associated with the experimental magazine Provoke, founded in Japan in 1968), he consciously eschews perfect form to show that the Japanese national sport is not a stiff tradition, but a vivid phenomenon. The works of the multiple winner of the World Press Photo (nine awards!) are a perfect match for the post-competition exhibition of this prestigious event, which will be presented in the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre for the eighth time in a row (from October 3 to 26). The winners of the 68th edition of the competition include 42 photographers from 31 countries, who provide us with an up-to-date picture of the modern world, full not only of burning issues, but also of beautiful moments, captured, for example, during a sporting competition.
