Love, betrayal, and crime set in the Eternal City, the immortal arias E lucevan le stelle and Vissi d'arte, three characters entangled in a conflict inevitably leading to a tragic end... The world premiere of Tosca in 1900, held—of course!—in Rome, became a national event. The Queen of Italy attended (albeit late, she came only after Act I), the Prime Minister, and numerous state dignitaries. Giacomo Puccini's masterpiece quickly became one of the most famous operatic stories without a happy ending and a staple in theatre repertoires worldwide, and now the Kraków Opera invites you to its new production. The story of the love between Tosca and her beloved Cavaradossi, which is intruded upon by high politics and the jealous and vengeful Baron Scarpia, is directed by Julia Pevzner, and Andriy Yurkevich is responsible for the musical aspect of the performance.
