Wawel, the Main Market Square and Plac na Groblach are the most beautiful settings for the 27th edition of the festival.
Its theme is ‘Time and Clocks in Dance and Ballet’. The organisers emphasise that it draws our attention to rhythm, repetition, precision of movement and – last but not least – time as a theme in ballet performances. The premiere, prepared especially for July’s festival of historical dance, will be Czary-zegary – a suite of Baroque dances inspired by the works of Jean-Baptiste Lully. This production by the Cracovia Danza Ballet was created in collaboration with the French company Compagnie HéliosKine, and the choreography is Pierre-François Dollé’s work. We will also see such international guests as Sanskriti Alaknanda from India. Traditionally, the festival programme includes a performance of Polish dances in the Main Market Square, concluding with a group polonaise. Court dance workshops (against a fee, registration closes on 30 June) are aimed at a wide audience and will culminate in the Kraków Royal Ball, whereas the ‘Kraków Dances at Wawel’ workshops are designed for children and young people. The artistic director and founder of the festival is Romana Agnel, and the organiser is – as usual – the Cracovia Danza Ballet headed by her.
