Jewish Kazimierz
Walking this route, we will see some of the oldest Jewish sacred buildings in Poland, the grave of a famous Rabbi that the Nazis did not dare tear down, a synagogue with stained-glass windows (a true rarity!), the place where the earth devoured merrymaking wedding guests, and the family home of the queen of cosmetics, Helena Rubinstein (ul. Szeroka 14). From the Middle Ages to the catastrophe of the Second World War Kraków, and especially Kazimierz, was counted among the greatest centres of Jewish activity in Europe. This route lets you discover some of its secrets.
If you only can, plan your visit to the district of Kazimierz for any day but Saturday, as most synagogues are closed then.
