World Youth Day is a perfect opportunity to present Poland’s first exhibition of work by Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini – the father of European Baroque and the author of such iconic works as the colonnade in front of St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. The medallion bearing the effigy of Clement X (pope between 1670 and 1676), on loan from a private collection, is displayed at Europeum – a branch of the National Museum in Krakow. The exhibition Papal Splendour presents the bronze profile alongside other images of successors of St Peter on loan from Polish museum collections.
