Although it looks quite unassuming, the church is one of the most famous and precious elements of heritage in the region; a true gem on the Małopolska Wooden Architecture Route. Dating back probably to the late 15th century, the diminutive church of St Leonard does not even have a tower, and its modest form disappears among the tall trees. They actually saved the valuable building from disaster. When a flood threatened to wash it away in 1997, the locals bound it with ropes to the powerful trunks. According to tradition, the church replaced a pagan shrine, from which the so-called totem pole of Światowid, the chief Slavic deity, has been retained supporting the high altar from the back. The Gothic silhouette, painted interior decoration, and precious furnishing, unchanged from the time of construction, had the church inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2003. It lies on the Małopolska Wooden Architecture Route.
