The wooden onion-shaped domes and clear division into the sanctuary, nave, and the prominent tower hiding the section for women below (Yes, women were forbidden to enter the nave where the service was held in churches of the Eastern rites (tzerkvas).) – these features characteristic of Lemko churches justified St Michael the Archangel being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013. When it was built in the late 18th century in place of pre-existing churches, it stood by a busy route leading to Hungary. Although the area is no longer crossed by major thoroughfares, a visit to the church in Brunary Wyżne (currently a Roman Catholic parish church) on its small knoll in the valley of the Biała River is certainly worthwhile. There is ancient heritage to admire inside: fragments of the original murals, a Baroque iconostasis, a painted pulpit from the 18th century, and a rococo pew with painted decoration.

The church is part of the Małopolska Wooden Architecture Route.
