Take note: this year’s celebrations of Women’s Day at the Kraków Philharmonic are held on a different date! On 9 March, we will hear two great ladies of music: Julia Fischer and Yulianna Avdeeva. Fischer, one of the finest violinists working today, became the youngest ever professor of her instrument aged just 23 in Germany. This year, she is working with the Viennese Philharmonic orchestra as artist in residence. And Avdeeva needs no introduction to Polish audiences: when the Russian artist won the Chopin Competition in 2010, she was already a rising star of piano virtuosity. Today she performs at the finest stages the world over. The evening for violin and piano resounds with Brahms’s Violin Sonata in A major Op. 100, Shostakovich’s Violin Sonata in G major Op. 134, and Szymanowski’s dreamy, dazzling Mythes. Besides their weekly symphony concerts, the Kraków Philharmonic also organises master recitals and educational concerts for children and young people.

The Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic Hall in Kraków was the first philharmonic to open in Poland after the Second World War. Besides the weekly symphony concerts, it organises master recitals and educational concerts for children and young people, while the summer meetings with music assume the form of chamber concerts of slightly lighter character. A hallmark of the Kraków Philharmonic repertoire is its programme of oratorios, which the Philharmonic can present thanks to its extensive and varied lineup: the orchestra, mixed choir, and boys choir. The Kraków Philharmonic has become recognised for its promotion of the works of Karol Szymanowski in Poland and abroad.

The Philharmonic Hall frequently hosts concerts by special guests, for example, at major festivals.
