19th Great Dragon Parade

Daily Lives of Dragons
Phileas Fogg didn’t encounter a single dragon during his 80 day-long journey. Things would have been very different had his route taken him via Kraków – after all, the flying reptile is the city’s informal symbol! Every year, Kraków becomes a dragon-filled metropolis: the mythical beasts take over the Main Market Square, streets of the Old Town and even the Vistula River! This year’s 19th Great Dragon Parade, held under the motto “Around the World in Forty Dragons”, welcomes beasts from all over the globe. They show off on the evening of Saturday 1 June, taking to barges and flying over the river, during an outdoor spectacle by the Vistula, bringing together pyrotechnic displays, water curtains, music and lights. On Sunday 2 June, the dragons will be tame enough to take part in the traditional parade through the streets of the Old Town. And that’s not all! The family Dragon Picnic takes over the Vistula Boulevards by the Dragon’s Den throughout the weekend, filled with workshops, competitions, games and delicious snacks. (Anna Mazur)
